Back to the orcish war camp...

Well, it's back to work after a long lovely week of vacation. It's not as bad as I thought. I am happy to be super busy so I can't dwell on the fact that the best week evah is over. We watched so many films that I should review and played some games that deserve a write up as well. I think I'll break them up so it's not a mile long rant.

I have to write about Tekken 5 first since it really is amazingly fun. The new additions are being able to customize the players with money you earn fighting. I think it would be funny to make Nina footie duck pajamas but I'm sure they don't have that available hah. I'm sure all of you have read by now that they killed off Heihachi but he did indeed come back as an evil monster man thingie with a smile of do0m in his tummy. Though he looks scary (and is reeeally hard to beat) I'm still unhappy they removed him as a playable character. Least I think they did. I haven't unlocked everyone yet. Perhaps tonight I'll work on that. He was always one of my best players. I had his counter down like clockwork. *smiff*

Oh well, still a great game. They also have the arcade versions of Tekken 1,2,3 that you can play. I forgot how incredibly lame the first one looked. Very nostalgic and fun for like one round in each game then you say "that was fun, now let's play the pretty one kthx *start+select*"

Also Super Mario DS was purchased and oogled over during the happy fun tour. :') It really is an amazing looking game, extremely fun and of course has the traditional Mario style and spots that are so hard to get buy you actually yell across the room that you're never playing again. Of course 2 minutes later after grumbling to yourself you pick up the shiny and keep playing. If you have a DS and don't have this game, shame on j00 ^_^

I'll hit some of the films tomorrow or later depending on how long I really can manage to do real work with out falling out of my chair and rolling on the floor in angst. Which reminds me I still have 6 DVDs that need to go back to the ol' Bbuster. Thank the rental gods for no more late fees. I think I could probably have put a down payment on a house with all the late fees I've paid over the years. Seriously.

So much to do so I better cut this fake short. There are actual piles of work on my desk that I don't even want to look at. *does zee snow dance so I can go home early*

one love.

Final hours.....

Snow and I got Tekken 5 about an hour'ish ago... so our last few hours together will be spent calling each other bitches and throwing controllers. I can't think of anything more perfect :')

So far the game is badass... *swoons a bit* However they killed off my favorite player and I'm a tad bitter about that. Maybe he'll come back as a ghost or something and kill everyone. That would be neat.

Enjoy the day all..

CHERRY pie happy fun tour 2005

Dear little-gamers folks,
The last week I've spent with zee snowy. We did many neat things... saw many great films (which will get proper reviews when I return full-time). Since I've been absent for so many days I felt today would be a good day to give the update.

First couple days we hung out... had Gir-like Taquitos, played chess and other games and ate a kick ass cherry pie I built for the arrival of the snowbunny. We got Mario for the DS that apparently my cat enjoys more than me... bought toys, visited local comic shops and just pounced around town being goofy.

Eventually, we visited the apple store™ in King of Prussia and got all starry, big sparkly eyed and snow replaced his iBook and I got some neat things for my iPod. There was much drooling over all the shiny precious things they had readily available in there. We even parked our arses in a Starbucks to have a cawfee and he got a wireless connection at the little table to set up the new baby. How neat is that? Oh yeah and snow got to meet the notorious MUM and she wants to steal him away to a secret island where we can all be idiots together. We even called some of the super sonic New Jersey Gang (family) members and talked which almost sent snow in a whirling pit of laughter from which you cannot return. Such a good time.

We met up at this neat place in Reading with Phoenixfireclaw from the LS. He is teh win :D We saw him in front of all the arcade machines and told him "dude put your flag up" hahahaha So great! His bro and GF were really uber and we played pool and Time Crisis and rawked the entire city. So neat :')

I made him try Fudruckers and that damn euro thought it would be neat to get a one pound burger. Like.... dude. There are pictures which you will see ;D This was after our second trip to the all holy Best Buy to purchase yummy sony trinkets so we could document this event.

Today we went to Hershey, PA and discovered how chocolate is made. The "Really Big 3-D Show" kicks much ass and the chocolate overfloweth in our pockets. However.... the snowfall remained steady and pounding, much to snowchyld's delight for he's never seen real snow. The drive home from chocolate town was treacherous.... fishtailed a few times but we made it safe and sound thank the gods. Snow reveled in the pure delight of a snow filled lawn and so we played. We pretended to be Subzero and had an intense snowball fight. I won of course since he is a rookie and all. *flex* Though coming inside was reminiscent of the child like days when you're having so much fun but you cannot feel you body and could possibly die so you go inside and strip off your mittens and scarves and whimper about how cold you are. Truly a beautiful moment.

The snow is still falling now... heavy at times and we could be trapped (oh poor us /sarcasm)

snowchyld got me a giant plushie pink bunny to snuggle so spirits are high....and the sci-fi channel and comedy central have yet to disappoint....

But...
a new emergency has been tossed into this wintery mix (that you're not supposed to drive in apparently) has come into play
we are low in TP
send
help
please

love,
naku

ps. if you want to see the pictures of our happy fun tour Here ya go... just don't laugh at me for looking like a dork. Snow would look good wearing a snorkel and a garbage bag.... I don't have that luxury ;D Enjoy!!

Thank you :') I'm not sticking up for american gamers... I'm sticking up for the gamers that are out there and don't care where people come from, they care about enjoying the time spent in the game. That was my point. There are bad gamers that use gaming as a means to make themselves feel bigger and better than they really are. There are ALSO gamers that spend the time wisely and help others become better... make the new comers understand how to play and learn from your mistakes. It should be a community and should be a good experience... especially since you pay a gorramn monthly fee for it hahaha! ;D

Anyway, thank you for the letter and kind words. Take care!

Hi,
Out of all the “ranters” on Little-Gamers I prefer your rants by far. But I’d like to point out one thing that may or may not fuel your anger on the issue regarding the U S of A and the rest of the worlds perception. I personally have no issues with the Americans, heck I even have relatives and co-workers from the much more sunny south (I’m from Canada eh [might as well say it before anyone else does ;-) ]). Anyways I too play ffxi (Bismarck server) and I can honestly say that the only troubles I’ve ever had from other players are American ones that seem to have been blinded by the media or some malarkey like that. Oddly enough this used to happen quite frequently even though I don’t bring up politics or nationalities at all. The other strange part is that it seems that they were “venting” their anger at me as they think that we didn’t support the US during the recent war in the Middle East, which I find aggravating as all hell. Not that I agree with the war or not (that’s another matter) but it’s the fact that we as Canadians probably have the most retarded politicians going. No no… Don’t argue… Ours are quite stupid. A la Jean Chretien publicly denouncing the war and generally being unpleasant towards the States thus straining our relationship BUT we ended up sending our troops and ships off to aid the effort without publicly announcing it. So I get told a lot “GEEZ! You guys didn’t help us at ALL! And we’re your neighbors!” to which I reply “So 9/11 doesn’t ring a bell? Your planes would’ve been lawn darts otherwise you know.” To which I get “So what about the war?” and again “Ummm… you guys have all our troops already…”

I suppose it doesn’t help that the media in the States also seems to be a huge political engine more than a news organization (Fox news and CNN’s news are a bit, shall we say, Skewed? From time to time.). And also there are the lovely broadcasts of people in your country trashing the rest of the nations. Probably doesn’t exactly brood much faith on either side.

I’m not saying that we’re totally innocent of it either or other countries are either. But I just wanted to give you an opinion from your rather frozen neighbors (We had freezing rain recently… ohhh goodie).

I think that the truth lays somewhere in between, and I think that a major factor in this is the news everywhere being anything but unbiased as it should be.

Heck with this… I’m starting my own country.

gonna post the link on LG tomorrow... think I came across wrong. My point was just that I wanted everyone to think about what they are saying in game as well as out of game. People are only as good as you treat them unfortunately.

It's too bad you're not on Phoenix server.. we have an amazing community of cool people on there.
Take care and thank you for writing.. means a lot. And watch out... I may steal my BF and make him emigrate to .ca with me ;D haha Have a great night

Hey ^_^
I thank you for taking the time to write. I will tell you that I've always dreamed of visiting Europe and seeing every beautiful sight I have time to see. Especially since the person I love lives there hahaha. I know that there are amazingly cool people there and I would have a great time if I visited. I also am weary knowing that there is a severe dislike of 'my kind' among the normal people over there haha! Someday I would like to visit Sweden and see what life is like for Madsen and Christian who are wonderful people. I just fear those moments alone with no one around to point me in the right direction... how would I be treated? Especially with this terrible east coast rough neck accent?

I lay in bed and think of seeing that wonderful world over there.... and I know I'm a good person and would make people smile that met me. The thing that scares me the most is the fact that over there, would I get the chance to make people smile or has my idiot government fscked that up entirely for me?

I am happy you wrote. I think there is a serious amount of good people in the US that deserve to be heard and bring some honorability to this rock we live on. We're not all ridiculous. Most yes, but just keep in mind some of us just want to eat pizza and fight you in Tekken while shouting profanities and laughing our asses off. Well, maybe that's just me but the good people in the US deserve some voice and recognition too ^_^ hehehe
Have a great night dude and thank you!

Hi!
I just read your current rant on little gamers and simply couldn't resist the urge to try to add my own little grain of salt to the topic (although your inbox will most likely be populated by lots of "America sucks!"/"Europe sucks!" mails by now).
So I'll try to keep this as short as possible.
Alright, so Brad wasn't exactly very diplomatic about his opinion a few days ago... a headline like "Americans Go Home" is probably enough to send even a lot of non-Americans on the barricades. Also, Generalizations are usually not the best way of making other people understand your point of view.
It was a pretty offensive rant, even if it was supposed to be funny.
On the other hand, you pretty much did EXACTLY the same thing. Let's just look at the sentence "I think the main reason this just won't leave my head is the attitude of europeans against americans in general.", shall we?
It's just as offensive as the stuff Brad said and it's exactly where the problem originates. (asides from being a ridiculous generalization)
Of course, his criticism wasn't very well-put. But by saying "all those fucking Europeans hate us, anyways", you just add more fuel to the fire (and also enrage other Europeans, like me).
I don't even think I want to know how many internet chatrooms or message boards have been through this whole topic before, but if I remember correctly, a lot of Americans used to consider little gamers "anti-American" because Madsen used to make jokes about the US (and still does).
So what? He also makes jokes about Europe or Japan. Big deal.
NOBODY needs to jump in the gap for "the poor wee usa". The poor wee usa are already annoying the rest of the world to death, which is why Americans tend to think that everyone hates them. The whole world watches American movies and TV series and is constantly confronted with patriotic content when they just want to be entertained. The whole world watches the USA as the only remaining superpower (guided by a monkey in a suit) do however they please right now.
And we're ANNOYED by it.
Most people keep that feeling to themselves and start watching anime or something when they're a little fed up with patriotic Hollywood movies, but the next person who walks into the room and spontaneously proclaims that he's "proud to be an American" usually attracts a lot of hidden aggressions.
(please note that I'm only trying to explain my thoughts on the subject here without trying to be offensive, although I might not be too good at that)
So, of course there are a lot of annoying French, German, British and whatever gamers out there.... but they're usually just being assholes in general and don't make it as obvious where they come from. Examples:
-The whole 1337-sp34k-thing can be very annoying and is mainly used by American teenagers. Simply because many foreign people don't know English well enough to use it.
-Americans like making fun of bad English. Even though many of them don't know any foreign languages at all and their spelling is usually a lot worse than that of people who had English as a second or third language.
-A lot of American kids will start making fun of foreign countries as soon as they notice that other chatters/gamers are not from the US. (just like most guys on the 'net will immediately start hitting on you as soon as they notice you're a girl)
Now, of course you've got a point. People from other countries do stuff like that, too. But I haven't made nearly as many bad experiences with, say, Swedish or French people online as with Americans. One of the reasons for that is actually fairly simple: TIME ZONES.
Let me provide a personal example in order to illustrate what I mean:
A while ago, I used to play Far Cry online, which was pretty fun. I usually played during the European afternoon or evening time and made mostly positive experiences. Most of the servers were pretty mixed with lots of people from France/UK/Germany/Netherlands, you name it. And they usually got along with each other just fine, simply because they were used to it. Anybody who felt like being a prick simply got bankicked and usually didn't return. And when I got on a server where I didn't understand the language, it usually didn't matter much. For example, I only know a couple of words in French and ended up on this French server one day. A couple of people tried talking to me and my nickname was pretty much the only thing I understood. So I managed to explain to them that I don't speak French and they actually tried to be polite and use English most of the time.
Then, one night, I got stuck with the game for a looooong time (you know the feeling). I just kept playing and playing and suddenly was left with lots and lots of assholes on the servers. There simply is no other word for it. People just out to offend you, teamkillers, campers, cheaters... you name it. That's when I noticed that most of the European gamers had gone to bed and that I was mainly left with Americans. No longer a mixed bunch from lots of different countries who keep to rules like "no rocket launchers on this server" and are used to getting along with each other, but lots of obnoxious, 1337-speaking, annoying American idiots who didn't give a crap about teamplay and complained that the European servers were too slow (they're not. but there's this tiny ocean in between....).
Simply put: it was no fun. What hat started out as a fun gaming experience made me shut down the computer and go to bed as a raging little ball of computer gaming fury.
And it has happened more than just once, on many, many servers, with many, many games.
When you stay online for too long as a European, you suddenly have whole hordes of American school kids and college students joining the games, many of which feel like being complete morons as soon as they go online.
And that's probably what made Brad angry.
I know that it's made me angry before.
And when it happens to you, it just makes you go "fuck Americans".
I don't want to say that all Americans are idiots. They're not. I've got a whole bunch of American friends and I LIKE America. But a LOT of American kids mutate into complete assholes as soon as they go online. I don't know why. Maybe they should get out more often. Maybe they don't have much of a real life. Maybe they're the ones who always get picked on in highschool. But they cast a really, really bad light on the rest of the American 'net users and they're always the ones who tend to stick out.
Errr... did that make any sense?
Probably not.
Let's just say that Americans like keeping a high profile. Which makes it pretty easy to single them out and blame 'em for everything.
I can sympathize with Brad. And I know that you've got a point, too.
Just try visiting Europe some day, and you'll find out that it's pretty nice, too, and that not everyone hates America, even though a lot of people are a little touchy about the subject right now. ;-)
(most likely including me, since I just wrote this incredibly long mail about a rant I read on little gamers)
Oh, and about that link in your rant... the pic came from this place: http://www.iso10s.net/main.htm
(in case you didn't know)
Still reading?
Probably not.
If you are, you may stop now.

Hey dude ^_^
First off... amazing letter and I thank you.

Secondly, I will say that I DO know where Brad was coming from and I can relate. However I cannot blame a country for being in game at a bad time. I wonder what Brad would rant about if he were a real life GIRL and had to deal with all the idiot game angst that came with that? Someone calling you a british fsck small potatoes compared to the stuff I have had to blow off while enjoying my favorite game. Does it make me angry? Yes it made me angry dealing with obscene and idiotic people. Did it make me feel the need to blame the country the said offenders came from? NO. This is my point.

I have had more wonderful in game experiences with beautiful people that just want to play and enjoy the game at hand than the small handful of yucky experiences that (at the time) made me re-think what the hell I'm doing playing at all. I really, really understand Brad's angst against the people that were assclowns to him while he was just trying to unwind and have a good time. I know it all too well. That is why I felt I was the perfect person to retort about what he wrote targeting americans. Brad is funny, scary smart and really cool. I know he was just driven to the edge by a bad night of gaming that all of us have been victim too.

It's just that LG has a lot of readers... from all over the world. I just want them to realize that some of the best gamers and most generous gamers.... are american. Call me fscking patriotic if you will but I have pride in myself and my friends who live here. My friends who live a few states away and I can call them when they fall asleep in Rangemont Pass and need to be there to represent.

In closing, this wasn't a bash on Brad.... he's the win. It was a bash on people that get their kicks in making other gamers feel bad. It's dishonorable and hopefully someone will read this that acts like that in game and takes a good look at themselves and makes a change. The best way to deal with a no0b is to hold your hand out and teach them. The good ones will take it and he bad ones will be added to your /blacklist ;)

thank you... Your letter makes all the sense in the world

Hi,
I may understand how you feel.

You know, when I was 11, I only had a vague idea of what America was and when I was 15, I started to understand who you where and what was the relationship between our two country.

Back then, everything was fine.

Before I continue, I must admit that my english is not perfect.  Very comprehensible, but not perfect.

I was 17 when I bought myself an Xbox, and 18 (a year later, duh) when I got Xbox Live.  In fact, I was one of the lucky dudes to take the Xbox Live Beta Test. I was so excited when I got the email saying I was part of the Beta Test.

The day I got the Beta Test DVD, I hooked it up in my Xbox, connected to Xbox Live and started playing Moto GP.  It was cool, but I was too shy to talk, I tought you (American) would laugh at me.

I was totally right.

In my whole life, many people had bitch on me, but never like on Xbox Live : "Canada suck", "Return to your Igloo", "Learn to speak english you fuckhead Canashit".

And so on. At this very moment, my respect for you was about nothing. In fact, I played Xbox Live only two times during the Beta Test.  Got bitched the two times.

If I may add, Americans are THE reason why I don't use quickmatch and optimatch features. (Unless optimatch have a language option).  I only play with friends I know.

I know many of you are pleasant people who did not vote for Bush, but still, you live in America and must live with the "bad publicity" that those fuckhead give you.

Also, you has an American and not beign affected by it might not be aware, but the vast majority of Anti-American sentiment comes from your foreign policy.  It's not "fun to hate America" as you said, it's just fun to "hate the country which had, by it's policy, made us loss many jobs, put us in constant danger (a Canadian who travel might be attacked as if he were an American), try to kill every (or almost) multinational we establish, have forced our leader in many ways they didn't like but had to accept in the fear of an embargo, proposed and forced the acceptation of the ALENA,..."

Don't get us wrong, we do not hate you for your freedom of speech or whatever. We hate you for what you don't see, we hate you for what you (multinationals and f.p.) to us.

(for the next three paragraph, please note that my neo-liberalism and capatilism releated english vocabulary is not particulary accurate, I am sorry for it)

You might not be aware, but Monsanto have been contamining, with various methods, a very large amount of canola seed. So much, that now some poor farmer got a geniticaly altered canola seed who spread like pest.  The problem, you guess it, is that this "geneticaly altered canola" is the propreity of Monsanto, so the farmer have to remove all the unwanted seed (tell me how to "unplant" many thousand of fucking seeds) or pay compansation to Monsanto, absurd.

I do also hope that you get not breast cancer.  Why ? Beacause Myriad Genetics now "own" a gene, one who develop breast cancer. Now labs everywhere in the world cannot continue their research, on this gene at least.  As I said, better not getting breast cancer or you will die for sure, as the research are advancing pretty slowy.

And happy for you you don't live in India.  Why ? Because if you did, you would find pretty weird that some U.S company ask your govenerment millions of dollars because, apparently, the spices your familly have been acquired by some company and now, are their own

YOU, have nothing, or about, to do with it. I am very concious of this, and I feel very sorry for you and for every other Americans who can think.

This email was only to inform you why so many people hate you and tell you that if you get bitched, don't worry, we get it back.

Hello Alexandre ^_^
Your mail has made me smile.. because it was honest. I appreciate that and wanted to write back right away. My point in the rant today was not to heckle Brad for bashing Americans... the point was that the typical gamer is not going to be the brightest, most honorable and kind natured of people. That is the sad truth of the matter. It's not just an american problem.. it's just that I think people who are typically not the most popular, most attractive, etc. in normal society are placed into this virtual world where they can act out how they want because they have no real face. They excel at the game and it gives them false confidence and arrogance. It leads to a bad attitude towards others.

To think someone laughed at you for your accent or english makes me want to cry. I think that is horrible and I'm sorry you had to go through that. I have close friends from all over the world and I envy their accents. I am the one who feels the way I talk is laughable. My boyfriend is in the UK, has a beautiful accent and I sound like a character from the "Sopranos", so gritty and with no class at all. So never be ashamed of how you talk for you could sound horrible like me :D

I do know how you feel though. I have been there. I tried to play that wretched Counterstrike a long time ago. I was bashed for being so bad, kicked out of rooms, no one would help me, no one would take the time to teach me how to be good at the game. No patience. I think some people forget the fact that it's a GAME! It's supposed to be fun. Being cruel to someone because they sound different or don't know what they are doing is not the way to honorably play a game.

I think the above is why I stick to Final Fantasy type games. The people want to help you. There is a need to work together to get ahead and the only way is to help each other. The japanese players are noble and mighty and will never treat you like you should not be playing the game. I spend most of my time in that game helping others and seeing them get ahead is what makes the game fun! I just don't think you can have that kind of experience in a game like Halo. Perhaps I'm wrong... but that is just how I feel personally.

As far as my government is concerned.... dude all I can say is: JESUS I'M SORRY! -_-

I wish I could change how things are here. It's scary for us here that don't agree with what is going on also. I know it affects others in other countries and it makes me feel like crawling under a rock for a thousand years. All I could do was vote for someone that could have made things kinda ok. I did but still... it was not enough. I just think it's a shame that there are more idiots out there than there are honest, good caring people that want the world to be a good place for everyone. I know for a fact that so many people here in the US don't even think about what goes on in other countries unless it effects the price of the gas going into their cars. This is a valid reason I can see other countries thinking we are all a bunch of lazy, ignorant fscks. And a lot of the population is, I won't deny that. But there are a lot of good people here and it just hurts that we are lost in the shuffle of all the political drama.

I'm going to post this letter tomorrow because I feel you brought up a great point. I hope you don't mind but I think it's a great letter. Your english is wonderful... don't worry ^_^ You should be proud, most of us here don't even have knowledge of more than a sentence of a second language, so I'm envious of you (and all europeans for being badass and being able to hang with people all over the world) hehe.

Take care and please don't let some silly people stop you from playing games. If you ever decide to try FFXI I will help you and the little-gamers and kweh groups will help you because that's what we do.

Thank you for the wonderful letter and I hope you have a great night,
/Naku

happy valentines day ^_^;

This is the best valentines day I've ever had. The reason isn't because of candy or cards or anything... it's because I'm the happiest I've ever been in my life and every day feels like valentines to me now. Thank you :')

Hope..

It's one of those things I find myself thinking about a lot. Do people still believe in it or is it just another word tossed around. What happens when you forget about it? I worry that the day to day grind makes people forget about hope. That it's easier to just deal with it and be meh than make something change. I'm so guilty of this. Not sure I can keep doing this design thing. None of it is making me feel like I'm creating something worthwhile. Just stupid logos for stupid corporate idiots that pick it apart until it's well... shit.

I get so consumed by this tech-fake art that when I actually sit down to draw something I can't. I don't believe in my hands holding a pencil. I want so much to create things that will make you smile that it blocks me more when it turns out like ass. I'm not sure how to fix my brain reguarding this situation or where I need to find inspiration. Maybe I'm on the computer too much. Maybe it's winter depression setting in and not being outside. Maybe I just miss hugging someone since I haven't in months. Maybe it's corporate horseshit that wore me down to nothing. Maybe I have misplaced hope?

I sure hope not. hehe.

It's times like these I wish my damn super powers would kick in so I could just go fight crime or something worthwhile. Bah. *skips off to find some gamma rays and poke spiders*

I'm sure things will even out eventually. Gonna start thowing my resume out all over the country and see what happens. You know you need to take a step back when you're up after midnight and a commercial for some tech school offering an "exciting career in criminal justice" actually looked appealing. Well to my defense there were vicious barking dogs and guns and a cool badge haha! Anyway, back to the orcs. Just needed a small vent.

I R TEH SUMMOOOOOOOOOONER

Well, these have been the longest couple days in all of history. Blargle. Anyway, I finally got all the avitars in FFXI with the exception of Fenrir who is the last. You have to fight all the avitars a second time to be able to get him. Luckily Garkin, Clay and Damar/Kats, (and whom ever else wants to kick prime ass when we gather to go) are helping out. Must..... have... purple.... dawggie ^_^

Hope snow and Aing had a great time and get home safe and sound. I want to hear how the concert was :D *jealous* Hehe.

In other news, my iPod is over half way filled now. *flex* And even better news, I'm working on a new site with some uber neat people. I'll keep ya posted.
